What to look for
Chute Creek, a rushing mountain stream
Wildflowers in season
Deer and elk
Marsh life
Trailhead is near the parking lot at Okanagan Mountain Park, located a few kilometers up Chute Lake Road from Glen Fir,
at the end of a clearly marked (but rough) road. Cross the creek via the bridge and proceed north following the signs and
the clear trail. The track crosses a flat before beginning to climb slightly to the northeast.
Eventually you cross over a height of land and descend gently to Gemil Lake, a small marsh with shallow water, cattails
and the profusion of insects usually found in a marsh. Elk, deer and the infrequent moose may visit here, especially after
dawn and before sunset.
If you prefer not to return by the same trail, work your way south and a bit east to the power line right of way. Follow
its double-track service track to Chute Lake Road, then turn downhill. It is a long but satisfying trek with some fine views
courtesy of the power line. Follow the Park road back to trailhead. (There once was a double-track roughly parallel to Chute
Creek that you may be able to locate where the Creek exits the power right-of-way.)
This track is entirely within the area burned in 2004, so you will be exposed to sun and wind. Wear a hat and carry lots
of water
