Looking for Wildflowers

Several wildflowers are mentioned in the hikes. They are listed alphabetically, with information on where they are most likely to be seen, and the time of their peak bloom.

Remember that the bloom generally runs from lower to higher elevations, and that the bloom period is shorter when the summer is hot and dry.

Arnica: From late March to early August depending on elevation. Forested trails, especially mid-level KVR

Arrow Balsam Root: Late March through April. Lower elevations, in light forest and open slopes. Easy to find.

Bitterroot: April on sunny days. Scary Rock is reliable.

Brown-eyed Susan: Throughout the summer after May. Blooms at all elevations

Columbine: Late June to August. Look in damp forest areas. Reliable on the plateau, around Elinor, Naramata Lakes.

Daisy: Ubiquitous and long-blooming. Especially plentiful on the plateau in July.

Fairy Slipper: April to early May in slightly open mixed forest. Top of Lady Slipper trail, and below the cougar’s den are reliable spots.

Goldenrod: July and August on the plateau.

Larkspur: June and July as elevation requires. Bull Pass early, Ted and Jeanie trail in July.

Lupine: June to August at higher elevations. Around Blackwell’s Lagoon, Woodwacker trails and on the plateau

Mariposa lily: June and July. Found in Ponderosa parkland at a variety of elevations. Look from Bull Pass to Fenceline/Corral trails.
